Zegarra e St. Vincent-St. Mary High School Foundation was established in 2003 and is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a public charity under Internal Revenue Code sec. 501(c)(3). e foundation receives and manages gis of real and personal property, manages and invests donations for income growth and provides financial support to St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. Foundation endowed funds are disbursed to fund more than 50 scholarships, provide tuition assistance and support school operations. Generous alumni and friends continue to add to the Foundation's endowment ensuring support of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School and its mission into the future. ST. VINCENT-ST. MARY HIGH SCHOOL FOUNDATION James L. Burdon, 1939-2017 In memory of James Burdon VM17(h)- only family and those close to Jim know and appreciate that his history is what brought him to where was... a successful attorney, dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and committed man of faith. Born into a family of meager means, Jim learned early in life to focus and work hard to overcome challenges. Growing up in a family that moved frequently, Jim attended high school in south side Chicago. A coach from a small college in Wisconsin offered him a basketball scholarship. It was at Ripon College when Jim decided to take his education and future more seriously. Aer receiving his degree, he entered the US Army, completed training as an Army Airborne Ranger, and served two years active duty and three years reserve duty as Army Captain. Aer being honorably discharged, Jim enrolled in e University of Akron Law School, and in 1969 began his law career in the Summit County Prosecutor's Office. Soon aer, he went into private practice where his reputation as a detailed researcher and scholar of the law has earned him the respect of his peers. Over the years, he has been consulted by national news networks for opinions in high profile cases. Jim's reputation as a perfectionist goes beyond the law. His love of basketball and his family led him to offer his talents as a CYO coach in 1978. His knowledge of the game, skill, discipline, and love of young people produced numerous championship teams. In 2013, Jim was inducted in the Cleveland Diocese CYO Hall of Fame. Although not an alumnus of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, Jim has been a staunch supporter for more than thirty years. During this time he offered financial support and volunteered his time and talents never once asking for compensation in return. In the late 1990s, aer the last Burdon child had graduated from STVM, Jim, Gary Johnson, and Joe Kidder were called upon to make necessary changes to regain STVM's educational and financial stability. Working closely with the school's new principal and department heads, enrollment grew and the school flourished. Jim served five years on the STVM school board was a Director on the St. Vincent-St. Mary High School Foundation. e Irish community will never forget Jim's unwaivering dedication to STVM. omas J.
