STUDENT-ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT Over the years in the classroom, BU men's basketball has produced a Rhodes Mission Statement Boston University returns a staff with over 40 years of coaching experience. Second-year head coach Joe Jones has helped teams reached the postseason on six occasions and has recruited and developed eight NBA players at the college level. This past season, he helped BU defeat Boston College for the first time since 1974 and snap Rhode Island's 32-home game win streak against non-conference opponents. His staff's knowledge and passion for the game helped the Terriers recruit one of the top recruiting classes at the non-BCS level for the upcoming season, highlighted by PARADE All-American and ESPN.com's 92nd-ranked Maurice Watson, Jr. COACHING EXPERIENCE BU has a rich basketball tradition dating back to 1901. The program has featured multiple All-Americans, including 1997 America East Player of the Year Tunji Awojobi (right), and an Elite Eight appearance in the 1959 NCAA tournament led by BU Hall of Famer Jack Leaman (left). By defeating Stony Brook in the 2011 America East title game, the Terriers claimed their sixth league championship en route to their 13th overall postseason appearance. Since helping form the conference in 1979, BU has posted a .631 winning percentage WINNING TRADITION and 308 wins, over 60 more than the next-closest school. On the court, head coach Joe Jones teaches young men to play fast, hard, disciplined and unselfishly. Under his guidance during the 2011-12 season, Darryl Partin increased his scoring average by five points to rank 23rd nationally at 19.6 ppg. He would go on to earn America East Player of the Year honors and get drafted by the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the NBA Development League. D.J. Irving also grew during the year, becoming PLAYER DEVELOPMENT DARRYL PARTIN the first Terrier since 1990 to lead the conference in assists at 5.4 apg while posting an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.34, the seventh-best mark ever in the 103 seasons of BU. 2012-13 ROSTER SCHEDULE/RESULTS SEASON PREVIEW The Boston University Men's Basketball team strives to be a championship level program in the classroom, in the community and on the court through accountability, effort and loyalty. We want to be the program by which all others are measured. Scholar, three Academic All-Americans and three America East Scholar-Athletes of the Year. This past spring, the Terriers finished in the top 10 percent of the NCAA with an Academic Progress Rate of 990, 40 points above the Division I average. Besides excelling in academics, the team also gives back to the community by promoting reading to children and volunteering at several events, including the Susan B. Komen's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. D.J. IRVING
