REMEMBER WHEN Alex Karras
University of Iowa consensus football All- American defensive lineman Alex Karras, 77, passed away Oct. 10, 2012. Karras was named All-Big Ten in 1956 and 1957. He played on the Hawkeye team that defeated Oregon State 35-19 in the 1957 Rose Bowl, and won the Outland Trophy as the outstanding interior lineman in the nation. Karras was also runner-up to Texas A&M running back John David Crow for the 1957 Heisman Trophy. Karas, a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, played for the Detroit Lions of the NFL from 1958-71.
