Returning starters in bold. TEAM OUTLOOK Expectations will be running high for the 2017 Huskies. Winning the Pac-12 title outright or shared in each of head coach Keegan Cook's two seasons at the helm, Washington welcomes back all six starters and its libero this season. Leading the charge is 2016 Pac-12 Player of the Year Courtney Schwan. UW also has an additional pair of All-Americans to turn to this upcoming season in seniors Crissy Jones and Bailey Tanner. UW will not be short on experience in 2017. STRENGTHS » The Huskies have a balanced attack and several offensive options with four players last year averaging at least 2.78 points per game while topping out at senior outside hitter Courtney Schwan's 4.11 points per game. Schwan is a versatile player who contributes in all facets of the game, while leading the attack. The Huskies have had the Conference's top player at the end of the season in three of the last four years. » Senior outside hitters Tia Scambray and Crissy Jones provide depth to a strong offense that is will be looking to take care of some un!nished business from last season. The duo averaged just under 4.00 points per set last year. As with the rest of the squad, the attack will be looking to add on another Pac-12 crown and perhaps go even further in the NCAA Tournament. » Keeping the attack on task will be veteran setter Bailey Tanner who directed the third-most ef!cient offense in the Pac- 12 while leading the Conference in assists per set. Jones and sophomore outside hitter/middle blocker Kara Bajema will protect the net as the top blockers from last season, and sophomore Shayne McPherson is the favorite to stop the ball from hitting the ground from the libero spot after a strong showing as a freshman. CONCERNS » There are few concerns for this season's Washington Huskies with 11 letterwinners returning from last season's cham- pionship team, including all six starters and the libero. However, managing high expectations that will be placed on the team, both externally and from within the team, will be an important factor. » Not only will the Huskies have a target on their backs as the two-time Pac-12 Champions, but they have advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight two years in a row. Getting over that hump is the next big challenge for UW. The Huskies have experienced a lot of success in Cook's two short seasons on the bench, and a three-peat will be squarely in sight. COOK'S CAREER RECORD Year School Overall Conference Postseason 2015-16 Washington (2 years) 60-8 (.882) 18-2 (.900) 6-3 (.750) Career totals (3 years) 60-8 (.882) 18-2 (.900) 6-2 (.750) HEAD COACH KEEGAN COOK • In his two seasons as head coach, the Huskies won back-to-back Pac-12 title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
