THIS IS BU SOCCER The women's soccer team showed that it is possible to win with class during the 2011 soccer season. BU was the lone Division I program, and one of just 13 men's and women's programs nationwide, to receive the NSCAA Gold Certificate for zero cards. The Terriers advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament without SPORTSMANSHIP receiving any disciplinary cards, yellow or red, in any of their 23 games. The America East recognized the Terriers with the 2011-12 America East Sportsmanship Award. The Terriers captured their fifth straight, and ninth overall, America East championship DYNASTY during their record breaking 19-3-1 season in 2011. BU went undefeated in league play for the fourth time in program history and appeared in their seventh straight NCAA tournament. The Terriers hosted an NCAA tournament game for the first time and de- feated Harvard, 3-0, to advance to the second round for the third time. BU ended the season ranked No. 17 in the final polls. The BU women's soccer team spent a week last season fundraising for the Dana- Farber Cancer Institute. Led by Tayler Nichols ('12), the Terriers hosted a silent COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT auction, sold pink soccer balls to the BU community and donated all gate receipts from their game against UMBC. The team also wore pink jerseys during the game to help promote the awareness of cancer. In the summers of 2008 and 2010, goalkeeper Kelly King (left) traveled to Tanzania through Be.The.Change, teaching English to underprivileged toddlers and youth in the Arusha region of the country. AMERICA EAST ELITE For the second straight season, BU swept all the major year-end America East honors. Lina Cords (pictured) was the America East Defender of the Year and the Tournament's Most Outstanding Player. Jessica Luscinski captured her second straight America East Striker of the Year accolade while Brittany Heist was named America East Midfielder of the Year and Taylor Krebs took home America East Rookie of the Year honors. In addition to their on-field success, the Terriers have also applied themselves in their academic pursuits. Last season, seniors Lina Cords and Jessica Luscinski were both named First Team Scholar All-Americans by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The Terriers have also boasted four America East Scholar-Athletes in the last four years, including Luscinski (2010) and Cords (2011).
