Year in Review
The 2009-10 academic year was another wildly successful one for the University of Wisconsin athletic department. Wisconsin fi nished 21st in the NACDA Directors' Cup Rankings, its 13th top-25 fi nish in the last 17 years. Three Badger teams captured conference titles. 17 of UW's 23 teams advanced to post-season play. Three teams tied or achieved new program-best fi nishes in the NCAA tournament and two others were national runners-up.
Postseason success followed Wisconsin throughout the calendar:
Men's hockey advanced to the NCAA title game– its 11th Frozen Four appearance
Football rolled to a 20-14 win over No. 14 Miami in the Champs Sports Bowl, a school record eighth- straight bowl game
Women's soccer made its fi rst run to the NCAA tournament regional since 1993
Men's cross country won a Big Ten-record 11th- straight conference title and recorded its 10th- straight top-10 fi nish at the NCAA meet
Women's swimming and diving recorded a top-15 fi nish at the NCAA championships, its eight top-20 fi nish in the last 11 years
Wrestling placed fourth at the NCAA championship, tying the best fi nish in school history
Men's basketball advanced to its 12th-consecutive NCAA tournament, reaching the second round
Women's basketball reached the NCAA tourna- ment for the fi rst time since 2002
Men's tennis qualifi ed for the NCAA tournament for a school-record fourth straight season, advancing to regional play for the fi rst time
Men's rowing placed ninth at the IRA national championships
Women's rowing hoisted its fi rst-ever Big Ten championship trophy, followed by the program's fi rst regional championship and the UW's best fi nish at the NCAA championships (seventh)
Women's lightweight rowing captured its sixth- consecutive Eastern Sprints title and fi nished second at the IRA national championships, their 11th-straight top-three fi nish
Coach of the Year
BARRY DAVIS, Wrestling Barry Davis was named 2010 National Coach of the Year after leading UW to a fourth-place fi nish at the NCAA championships, tying the best fi nish in school history.
