2012 FURMAN PALADINS p FOOTBALL BOB PRICE Kickers/Punters spans three head coaches, is entering his 15th year as coach of the Paladin kickers and punters. In 2010 Price oversaw the outstanding work of a pair of Bob Price, whose Furman assistant coaching tenure now Paladin specialists, including placekicker Ray Early and punter Chas Short. Early burst on the scene in 2010 by earning All- Southern Conference honors after converting 11-of-12 field goals, including a 52-yard effort in a 27-10 victory over Samford, and leading Furman in scoring with 73 points. Short, meanwhile, averaged a solid 38.3 yards per punt and played a huge role in the Paladins sixth-place national ranking in net punting, yielding only 15 total yards in returns for the season. In 2007 two-time All-Southern Conference choice Scott Beckler wrapped up his career as Furman's all-time leading kick scorer (314 points), eclipsing the previous mark of 312 points set by another Price understudy, Danny Marshall (2000-03). In 2005 Price worked with All-America punter Ingle Martin, who averaged a SoCon leading 43.2 yards per punt. All told Price has coached seven all-conference performers during his tenure with the Paladins. A Greer, S.C., native, Price's coaching career now spans well over a quarter century since accepting his first job as an assistant coach at Watauga (N.C.) High School in 1981. In 1982, he returned to the Palmetto State as an assistant coach at Blue Ridge High School. The following year he accepted an assistant head coaching position at J.L. Mann High School, serving as the Patriots' offensive coordinator for six seasons. Mann as an assistant. He came to Furman in 1998 as an assistant on head coach Bobby Johnson's staff that included then-assistant coach Bruce Fowler. A 1977 graduate of Greenville County's Riverside High School, he punted at Lees McRae (N.C.) Junior College and later at Appalachian State University before earning his bachelor's degree from ASU in physical education in 1981. In addition, Anderson captured the 2011 FCS Tight End Award given by the College Football Performance Awards. A native of Clarksville, Tenn., he played running back and safety at Davidson Academy, twice earning all-state honors. Vaughn enrolled at Vanderbilt in the fall of 2007 and was a member of the Commodore football program, lettering as a senior special teams contributor in 2010. He was named to the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll all four years before graduating with a degree in secondary education and history.
