BY THE NUMBERS Former Badger Evan Jager is the new American record-holder in the steeplechase 8:06.81 MEN'S TRACK & FIELD Former Badger Evan Jager — who will rep- resent the U.S. at the Olympics — broke the American record in the 3,000-meter stee- plechase last weekend by running a time of 8:06.81 at the IAAF Diamond League meet in Monaco. It was the first international race for Jager in the steeplechase, and just his fifth run ever in the event. 18 FOOTBALL Senior RB Montee Ball needs 18 touchdowns this season — he scored 39 last year — to break the all-time NCAA record for total TDs in a career. Ball enters the season with 61 career touch- downs, despite starting just 18 games in his first three seasons. 10 » VARSITY JULY 26, 2012 9 OLYMPICS The Badgers will be represented by a total of nine current and former athletes at the 2012 Olympic Games, which begin this weekend in London. Six athletes from the UW track and field teams, as well as three from the Badgers' rowing pro- grams, will compete for the United States, Canada and Lithuania. 12.2 MEN'S BASKETBALL Former Badger Marcus Landry made the most of his opportunity in the NBA Summer League, scoring in double-figures in each of the Phoenix Suns' five games in Las Vegas. Landry averaged 12.2 points per game for the summer league, just shy of the 12.7 points he averaged during his senior sea- son with the Badgers in 2008-09.
