LARRY SCOTT PAC-12 COMMISSIONER WELCOME! Thank you for taking the time to learn more about the Pac-12 Conference. This year marks the beginning of the Pac-12's second century, a new era of college sports in the West. As we move forward, the Pac-12 intends to exemplify the best of what a collegiate conference can do for its universities, students, alumni, and campus communities, while adhering to our strong conviction that academic and athletic excellence can and should go hand in hand. That balance of athletic and academic achievement has come to define the Pac-12 as the "Conference of Champions ®." Our conference is home to 12 of the most outstand- ing universities in the world and has won a total of 488 NCAA titles, by far the most of any conference in the country. As we celebrate our tradition of success on and off the field, we also strive to modernize collegiate athletics for the benefit of all student-athletes, present and future. The most vital role of the Conference is to ensure that the 7,000 student-athletes across the Pac-12 have every possible opportunity to excel in their sport and otherwise. We are funding important research to improve student-athlete health and well-being, we have added student-athletes to the Conference's formal governance structure, and we're working with our campuses to make sure student-athletes have the time necessary to pursue all of their academic and extracurricular interests. The Pac-12 is uniquely committed to a global vision of college sports. We're taking our unique combination of elite higher education and best-in-class athletics and exporting it around the world, while giving student-athletes the opportunity to enjoy new cultural experiences. We are also proud to provide our student-athletes with unprecedented exposure on Pac- 12 Networks, an integrated media company dedicated to telling the amazing stories of our student-athletes and universities across all of our platforms. In addition to telling these great stories, Pac-12 Networks pushes the limit of what a wholly owned media company can do for Pac-12 schools. From televising 850 live events, to engaging fans on innovative digital platforms, to providing athletic depart- ments sales, sponsorship, and analytics support, Pac-12 Networks provides our univer- sities with incredible resources and flexibility in a new era of collegiate athletics. As you can see, there are many exciting things happening on and off the field as the Pac-12 begins its second century. Like the 100 years before it, the 2016-17 academic year promises to produce magic moments, championship performances, and inspiring role models across our 23 sports. I hope you enjoy every minute of it. Sincerely, Commissioner Larry Scott
