TOURNAMENT TIME: The softball team made its first NCAA tournament appearance, beating Fresno State, 3-1. The fifth-seeded Badgers went on to finish 1-2, losing to San Diego State twice. Andrea Kirchberg was named to the all-region team.
May 20, 1988 DOUBLING UP: The doubles team of Tim Madden and Jack Waite beat a team from UC-Irvine 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, to win their first-round match at the NCAA championship.

The men's golf team won its second-consecutive Big Ten championship in Ann Arbor, Mich. Senior Ben Walter won individual medalist honors, shooting the second-best winning score ever recorded at the meet with a total of 274, which also broke the Badgers' 72-hole school record. In addition, Walter set Big Ten records for low 36- and 54-hole scores..
