131 A er two weeks of spring competition, the University of Iowa women's golf team is focused on finding consistency throughout its lineup. "I think we've seen a lot of great individual performances," said UI head coach Megan Menzel. "We continue to see someone in the lineup step up every day. at's been good to see. Now we are focused on performing with more consistency." e Hawkeyes have notched two top-10 team finishes this spring. Iowa opened its spring slate with a ninth-place finish at the Westbrook Spring Invitational from Feb. 21-22, carding a team score of 871 (+7, 293, 292, 286) — the second lowest 54-hole team score in program history. e following weekend, Iowa tied for 10th in the 41-team field at the Edwin Watts Kiawah Island Classic with a three-round total of 905 (+41). "Our message has been the same," said Menzel. "We are trying to get a little better each week. Last week we saw some weaknesses with a different style of course. We came back to Iowa, got to work, and we look forward to getting better next time out." Jessie Sindlinger has been Iowa's top finisher in each of the last two meets, registering a pair of top- 30 finishes. e junior used a career-best 54-hole total of 216 (E) to finish 18th at the Westbrook Spring Invitational. She followed that with a 28th- place finish (225, +9) at the Edwin Watts Kiawah Island Classic. "e exciting thing for Jessie is that she would say she hasn't necessarily played all that well, yet she's the one that has been leading us," said Menzel. "Her short-game strengths put her ahead of a lot of people day in and day out. When she feels that her ball striking gets where she would like, it's going to be an exciting spring for her." Four meets remain until the Big Ten Championships from Feb. 22-24 in Indianapolis, and the Hawkeyes are focused on correcting their weaknesses in order to achieve a complete team performance. "We are all excited for the day when we can turn in four good scores," said Menzel. "at's what we really need to be competitive week in and week out. "We feel like this team is capable of competing with anybody. It's going to take four good scores week in and week out. at being said, I think we are still on track for peaking at the right time. Anything can happen at the Big Ten Tournament at the end of the season." e Hawkeyes return to action March 12, taking on Texas State in the Showdown at Summerlin in Las Vegas.
