121 U niversity of Iowa divers Addison Boschult and Calli Head enter the 2016 NCAA Zone D Diving Championships with an enhanced level of confidence. It stems from their out-of-nowhere performances at last season's NCAA Zone D Championships at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center in Iowa City, Iowa. e pair advanced through the event off the platform to qualify the NCAA Championships. From March 7-9 is another go-round as the duo are two of 11 Hawkeyes traveling to College Station, Texas, looking to move on to the 2016 NCAA Championships in Atlanta (March 24-27). "Aer having some success, I have been building on it," said Head, a junior from Fox Point, Wisconsin. "I am feeling more confident this year in my diving and how I can compete. I feel that I can compete with those girls. Aer last year and knowing I can do it, it makes this year even better." Head placed seventh place at last year's Zones before finishing 40th at the NCAA Championships with a score of 208.70. UI diving coach Todd Waikel sees bigger things for Head in 2016. "Last year getting to the meet was the goal," said Waikel. "is year we're going to get to the meet and we have more goals. is year she is so confident you can see it in her face and eyes." Head credits her mental approach to her growth. "I have been more mentally strong," said Head. "I have struggled in the past with some mental things that have held me back. is year I have been more mentally tough and that has helped in how I have been performing." Boschult will rely on experience when he climbs the tower at the Student Recreation Natatorium. It will be his fourth NCAA Zone Meet. "He knows his way around the meet, how it is going to be competed, and how to strategize," said Waikel. "at will be a great advantage for him. "On the other hand, he can't get too caught up in the final outcome. You have to focus on what's in front of you and control the things you have control over. He has high expectations, wants to get back to the NCAAs, has loy goals at NCAAs, but he is grounded. He isn't looking too far ahead." Boschult qualified for last season's NCAAs aer diving to a career-best performance at the Zones with a school-record 409.20 off the platform to earn a runner-up finish. He carried over the success to the NCAA Championship meet, earning honorable mention All-America honors aer a 10th-place finish. Heading into his final Zone qualifier, Boschult feels pressure to return to the big stage, but that's when he refocuses on the process. "ere is a little bit of pressure to make it again, but I feel confident knowing what I need to do to get there," said Boschult. "e biggest thing is going into this meet with the same approach of how we practice every day, not getting too nervous about it, and approaching it with the mindset that we know how to do our dives. It's letting our bodies do what it knows how to do." MARCH SCHEDULE March 7-9 NCAA Zone D Diving Championships March 17-20 NCAA Championships (W) March 24-27 NCAA Championships (M)
