The new year is well underway at Colorado Mesa University and I'd like to take a moment to reflect on the institution's recent successes. In 2015, the university celebrated a number of milestones, not the least of which was its 90th anniversary. From its early days as a local junior college, to its latest incarnation as a university with students from across the globe, CMU is proud to have produced high-caliber graduates since 1925. In late November, excited Colorado Mesa students, faculty and staff returned to the renovated and expanded Tomlinson Library. Thanks to our generous donors, Tomlinson has all the resources a 21st-century student needs. I encourage you to come back to CMU to see this beautiful building at the heart of campus. In December, we celebrated a record-breaking December Commencement ceremony. CMU awarded more than 600 degrees to 570 graduates. Three of those students — Heather Findlay Tobin, Judith Shue and Dana Ashton Johnson — were the university's first doctoral students. They stepped off the stage and into university history. We could not be more proud of these three graduates and the impact they will have on the nursing field. The coming year will bring many more positive changes to Colorado Mesa University. The university began construction on the Community Hospital Plaza north of the main campus in January. The renovated property will provide CMU's Department of Health Sciences with some much-needed elbow room so it can expand its programs and continue to graduate qualified health care professionals. Be sure to keep up with the Mavericks by visiting our redesigned website or making a trip to see campus. Have a happy 2016, CMU. Go Mavs!
