Seniors KatieNess and Traci Robertson figure to be the catalysts on both ends for the Saints this coming season.Ness possesses blinding speed, which she uses to her advantage on both offense and defense.Meanwhile,Robertson is a stellar all-around playerwho led all returning players in steals, ejections drawn, and field blocks a year ago. With Siena having graduated the team's top four scorers froma year ago, however, the two members of the Class of 2012 have big shoes to fill. Juniors Siena's three juniors all sawplaying time a season ago,and could emerge as valuable pieces of Siena's attack.Utility Rebecca Robinson scored 15 goals a year ago, while CallyTimmstarted five games early in an injury-shortened 2011.Meanwhile,goal- keeper Stephani Pouder returns aswell and figures to challenge for playing time in net after playing all but eightminutes of last year's schedule between the pipes. Sophomores A three-deep sophomore class is headlined by returnees Lea Allen andMelanie Boehrig.A two-sport athlete,Allenmissed the first five games of 2011,butmade an immediate splash by totaling 21 points in 21 games.Meanwhile,Boehrig established herself as a valuable role-player off Siena's bench, scoring 12 goals. Newcomer BrittanyTayler rounds out the sophomore class. Freshmen With such a young team, the Saintsmay place a fair amount of faith in their five freshmen.MadelineHurley, a 6-2 goalie fromSan Jose,Calif.,may start immediately in net, while attacker Jasmine Carrillo's passing ability and JacquelynVerdon's finishing skills could earn both first-year Saints playing time right away aswell. Utility Stephanie Bundas, like her former high school teammate Lea Allen, is a two-sport athlete, but could play herway into the rotation once swimseason ends. Finally,Kori Swieter adds versatility to the Siena bench and could fill a variety of different roles in her first season in Loudonville. Schedule Sienawill play 30 games during the 2012 season, the first ofwhich come at Bucknell's Bison Invitational on February 18.The Saintswill also play tournaments at Princeton (February 25),Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (March 9-10),andMichigan (March 17-18) beforeMAAC play begins onMarch 24 against VMI andWagner atMarist College in Poughkeepsie,N.Y.
