THIS WEEK IN BADGER HISTORY Wisconsin won 15 consecutive games on its way to the national title in 1941. March 29, 1941 National champions! Wisconsin defeated Washington State, 39-34, in Kansas City to win the NCAA men's basket- ball title. The Badgers finished the season with a 20-3 overall record, going 11-1 in the Big Ten. The 1940-41 Badgers were the first team to score over 1,000 points in a season, record- ing 1,004 — of which 536 were scored in Big Ten games. ALSO THIS WEEK March 26, 1983 WINNING IT ALL: Two goals each by Patrick Flatley and Paul Houston helped first- year coach Jeff Sauer and the men's hockey team to a 6-2 win over Harvard in the NCAA championship game in Grand Forks, N.D. The NCAA title marked the fourth in program history. March 28, 2007 COACH OF THE YEAR: Head coach Bo Ryan received the Adolph Rupp Cup as the national coach of the year from the Commonwealth Athletic Club of Kentucky. Five days later, Ryan was selected as the Clair Bee Coach of the Year. April 1, 1966 A 'GREAT DAY' INDEED: "Badger" Bob Johnson is hired as head men's hockey coach at Wisconsin. 52 » VARSITY MARCH 29, 2012
