42 2015-16 PAC-12 MEN'S BASKETBALL MEDIA GUIDE // REVIEW 2014-15 PAC-12 REVIEW PAC-12 MEN'S BASKETBALL SENDS SEVEN TEAMS TO POSTSEASON Arizona Reaches Elite Eight, Stanford Captures NIT Crown Six Athletes Collect National Honors • The ARIZONA Wildcats captured their 14th Pac-12 regular season title, and then won their fifth Pac-12 Tournament title as they defeated OREGON in the cham- pionship game, 80-52. It was their first Pac-12 Tournament crown since 2002. • Seven teams participated in the postseason. ARIZONA, OREGON, UCLA and UTAH were selected to participate in NCAA Tournament where the Wildcats advanced to the Elite Eight for the second straight year. ARIZONA STATE and STANFORD were selected for the NIT. Stanford swept through the postseason and earned its third NIT title, and second in four seasons. COLORADO was a participant in the CBI. • Pac-12 Player of the Year honors went to Oregon's Joseph Young, who averaged 20.7 points, averaged 2.5 three-point field goals per game and shot 92.5 percent from the free throw line. Arizona's Stanley Johnson picked up Freshman of the Year honors after he led the Wildcats with 13.8 points per game, while pulling down 6.5 rebounds per game. OREGON STATE junior G Gary Payton II earned Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year after recording a league-best 95 steals (3.1 spg). His father earned the same honor for the Beavers in 1987. WASHINGTON STATE sophomore F Josh Hawkinson led the Pac-12 in rebounds (10.8 avg) and collected Most Improved Player of the Year honors. STANFORD senior G Chasson Randle earned Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and went on to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. Oregon coach Dana Altman was tabbed Pac-12 Coach of the Year. Altman led Oregon to its fourth consecutive 20-win season and third straight NCAA Tournament appearance. • Utah senior G Delon Wright was named the Bob Cousy Award winner honoring the nation's top point guard. Arizona's Stanley Johnson was named the Julius Erving Award winner honoring the nation's top small forward. Wright earned nu- merous All-America honors including The Sporting News First Team and John Wooden All-America Team selections. He led the league averaging 20.7 points and elevated his game in the poastseaosn where he averaged 26.2 points. He was impressive at the free throw line as he shot 92.5 percent and set a Pac-12 career record from the charity stripe shooting 90.0 percent (279-of-310).
