BROOKE AMMERMAN »» WOMEN'S HOCKEY Badgering... One of five women's hockey seniors, Brooke Ammerman is making her third trip to the NCAA Women's Frozen Four. A native of River Vale, N.J., Ammerman sits fourth all-time in career points and is just four goals shy of recording 100 for her career. She was recently named third-team All-WCHA after scoring 27 goals and recording 41 assists in the regular season. She also plays alongside her sister, sophomore Brittany Ammerman. New Jersey isn't normally known for hockey; how were you introduced to the game? "My brother in-law used to babysit my sister and me when we were little. We went to Toys 'R Us one day and he picked out a hockey set, and we would play with it in the basement and one thing led to another. Our dad was a season ticket holder for the New York Rangers and the New Jersey Devils so we got to watch a lot of hockey." What will it be like for your sister next season, when you're no longer on the team? "I think it will definitely be different for her. I had two years of playing here by myself. Both are different experiences and both have been awesome, but I'll still be around next year watching. I mean, you're still playing Division I hockey so life's not really that bad." What is it like to end your career as the fourth-leading scorer in UW history? "It's an awesome honor. You want to be successful, but you never know what could happen. It was definitely a big challenge coming into a program as good as it is. I think Mark Johnson having faith in me and giving me so many minutes since I was a freshman really helped. Getting to play with some of those players that are at the top of that list as well definitely helps. It's something cool that I will definitely take with me." This is your third Frozen Four in four years. Does it get any less exciting? "I think it's just a different excitement. When it's your first one, you're just excited to get there and you don't really know what to expect. Your third year, you realize how hard it is to get there and appreciate it a lot more, so I think we get even more excited to go back." 22 » VARSITY MARCH 15, 2012
