Q&A with lori bonacci The Citadel women's golf team is entering its fi fth season un- der the direction of head coach Lori Hatcher Bonacci. The Bulldogs return three letterwinners, Bree Baumgartner, Alan- na-Jean Keith and Erica Pellegrini, from last year's squad, along with the addition of freshmen Kellie Anderson, TaKima Butler and Devin Lowe. Bonacci, who took over the reigns of the program in 2007-08, has again proven herself as a solid recruiter by constructing a team that looks to make a signifi - cant impact in the Southern Conference. Among her many accomplishments with the program, Bonacci's teams have set records for best round (304), set at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate on Sept. 19, 2010, and best total score (965), established at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate on Sept. 26, 2010. After a solid 2011 fall season, what are your thoughts on the spring schedule? Bonacci: "I believe the spring season will bring improvement from the freshman on the team. They have had the fall se- mester to adjust to The Citadel lifestyle and collegiate golf. They will now be able to focus on improving their game and on our upcoming spring schedule." How would you analyze the makeup of the team? Bonacci: "We have a great team dynamic this year. Every- one's personalities seem to balance and it helps to keep a positive attitude on the entire team." What are some of the important strengths that the team The Citadel Golf The Citadel Golf possesses? Bonacci: "This team has the most experience when it comes to prior tournament experience. The freshmen all came in with a tournament tough mentality which helped them to have a successful fall season." Your team is comprised of three freshmen, two seniors and one sophomore. How does this help in the growth and development of the program and the team for the coming seasons? Bonacci: "With three upperclassmen and three freshmen it enabled me to give each freshman a mentor on the team and someone to go to if they needed advice throughout the year. This allowed the team to blend well between our upperclass- men and freshmen." After a solid freshman season, combined with a strong showing in the fall, from Erica Pellegrini, how excited are you about what the future holds for her career at The Citadel? Bonacci: "I am very excited about her time left here at The Citadel. She has continued to increase her competitive edge and is focused on making an impact in the Southern Confer- ence this year. I look for her to make the All-Conference team this year as a sophomore."
