The women's basketball team won its first WWIAC large school state championship and beat cross-state rival UW-La Crosse for the first time in the process, scoring a 68-64 win.
February 28, 1949 SHOOTING BUCKETS: Don Rehfeldt attempted 37 shots in a 70-47 trouncing of Iowa. Rehfeldt's 37 field goal attempts still stands as a men's basketball single-game record, ahead of the 32 he hoisted against the Hawkeyes in 1950.

March 1, 1999 DEFENSE WINS: Men's basketball sophomore guard Mike Kelley became the first Badger to be named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.
March 4, 2006 SCORING MORE: Alando Tucker scored 10 points in UW's Big Ten finale against Iowa and became the first Badger to lead the league in scoring since Don Rehfeldt in 1950. Tucker averaged 20.0 points in 16 games.
