TEAM OUTLOOK The Sun Devils qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the third-straight year and for the first time in ASU history, they have strung together three-straight 19 win seasons. From the 2014 team, Arizona State welcomes back all of its main contributors head coach Jason Watson relied on. With that kind of return, ASU will look to continue both of those streaks and vy for the Pac-12 crown after being picked to finish second by the Pac-12 coaches. STRENGTHS » Arizona State returns six players who appeared in 119 sets or more during the 2014 season. Macey Gardner (pictured), Kizzy Ricedorff (Willey), Mercedes Binns, BreElle Bailey, Bianca Arellano and Halle Harker (honorable mention Pac-12 All-Freshman team) will look to lead the Sun Devils back to the NCAA Tournament. » Arellano, the Sun Devils' setter, posted 21 double-doubles in 2014, tied for the third-best mark in the Pac-12. She averaged 10.34 assists per set, good for No. 6 in the Pac-12 on the year. Another year of familiarity with her attackers will only make the ASU's offense more potent. » A three-time All-Pac-12 honoree and 2014 third team AVCA All-American, has been the focal point of the Sun Devil attack since arriving on campus. She was fifth in the league in kills per set at 4.34 and in double-doubles with 20. Look for her to become an even more effective attacker in her final year. » Arizona State's opponents had a hitting percentage of .196 against them, which was the fourth-best percentage in the league. Building on an already strong defense, coupled with a strong and experienced attack, could make Watson's squad very dangerous in the Pac-12. CONCERNS » The Sun Devils were last in the Conference in assists (11.87 per set) and kills (12.72 per set) in 2014, but, with the same core returning, those numbers should improve in 2015. » The downside of having six student-athletes play 119 sets or more during the year is that there is not a lot of experi- ence reserves. Look for Watson to try and develop some of his younger talent this year in preparation for the future. WATSON'S CAREER RECORD Year School Overall Conference Postseason 2005-07 Brigham Young (3 years) 74-18 (.804) 39-9 (.813) 4-3 (.571) 2008-14 Arizona State (7 years) 107-117 (.478) 45-91 (.331) 1-3 (.250) Career totals (10 years) 181-135 (.573) 84-100 (.457) 5-6 (.455) Div. I only HEAD COACH JASON WATSON • Hired as ASU's sixth coach in the program's history on Jan. 30, 2008. • In four seasons at BYU, guided the Cougars to an average of 24.7 wins per season and three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances.
