"Ironically enough we were coming from back from Minnesota, where we had spent Christ- mas,'' recounted Markuson, who was born and raised in Farmington, Minn. "We were headed to Kentucky to show my daughter the University of Kentucky campus when we were driving around Madison and I said, 'This would be a great place to live and coach.'''
That was on December 28.
Markuson, 50, has since gotten his wish. "I've studied and watched Wisconsin and I've
got cut-ups of what they do,'' he said. "I've al- ways been impressed with the kind of kids that they were able to cultivate and develop in that program.''

"To me how it all came to- gether was Coach Alvarez," Markuson said. "I know he was influential with Coach Bielema in helping get me to Wisconsin. I'm thankful for that and proud as punch to be a Badger.''
