COACHES BIOS COACHES BIOS THE CATES-MOORE FILE FRESNO STATE WOMEN'S GOLF ANGIE CATES-MOORE In her eighth season as the head coach of the Fresno State women's golf team, Angie Cates-Moore has established a stan- dard of excellence both on and off the course. Cates-Moore has led her team to a WAC Championship, 34 top-five finishes, includ- ing placing first on four occasions, and was twice named WAC Coach of the Year. In the classroom, the program has pro- duced 25 Academic All-WAC honors, 12 of which came in the past two seasons, and 13 All-American Scholars. Coach Cates-Moore has been with the pro- gram since its start in 2004 and has taken it to new heights in the short amount of time. The program drew attention during the 2007-08 season by winning the WAC Championship and advancing to the NCAA West Regional. Last season, Cates-Moore guided the squad to back-to-back-to-back top-three tournament finishes during the fall along with placing third in comeback fashion at the WAC Championship. She also coached Louisa Lies to her second straight second-team All-WAC selec- tion making it the 11th time a Bulldog has earned an All-WAC selection. Cates-Moore saw her team steadily improve over the 2009-10 season which was highlighted by senior Hali Coppin claiming the WAC individual title along with being named to the All-WAC first- team. Under Cates-Moore, the 2008-09 squad placed third at the WAC Championship for their third top-three finish in five seasons. During the team's historic season in 2007-08, Cates-Moore guided her team to its first NCAA West Regional bid where they finished in 18th place at Lincoln Hills Golf Clubin Northern California. Cates-Moore has proven her coaching abili- ties with her freshmen recruits continuing to make a big impact on her teams. For the 2005-06 season, her recruits added a huge boost to the program and helped rank Fresno State in the Top 25 for freshman class impact. Cates-Moore led 10 of her 12 players to earn a 3.0 GPA or better and were recognized at the Kiwanis Torch of Excellence. During Fresno State's inaugural 2004-05 sea- son, Cates-Moore wasted no time striving for excellence as the women's golf team captured seven top-five finishes which include placing fourth at the WAC Champi- onship. In addition to leading her team to two tournament titles, Cates-Moore was named the 2005 WAC Coach of the Year. Under her watch, the Bulldogs were on the cusp of an NCAA berth as a first-year program. Cates-Moore coached then-freshman Laura Luethke to a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Western Regional as well as three individual tournament titles. Her team again excelled in the classroom, as seven of her golfers were named Fresno State Scholar-Athletes and four earned WAC Scholar-Athletes honors. Before joining the Bulldogs, Cates-Moore served as an assistant coach for both the men's and women's golf teams at Oregon State. While at Oregon State, she helped both the men's and women's teams advance to the 2003 NCAA Regional Championships.
