STUDENTS PAIRED WITH NATIONAL
ASSOCIATION OF BLACK ACCOUNTANTS
Mario Wiley '15 is well on his way to becoming a tax
accountant. The business student has been paired with
a professional member of the National Association of
Black Accountants (NABA) to help him transition from
student to professional.
"We meet once a month," Wiley says. "When my GPA
dropped, she told me to focus. She gives me tasks to do.
I have to find 10 internships where I would be a good fit."
His mentor, Tanya Miller, assistant vice president and
senior financial analyst at Bank of America, says she
is privileged to be a sounding board for one of JWU's
bright, young minds.
"The program provides a wonderful opportunity to
share experiences and advice that I hope will help
Mario carve out a path in the accounting or business
profession," she says.
Culinary students in an Advanced Cakes class teamed up with hospitality
students in the Weddings & Ceremonies class to create cake design
consultations. Student event planners created bios of hypothetical couples
and cake design ideas, while Baking & Pastry Arts students created the
contracts and cake tastings.
