Even with the impressive numbers and finishes during the fall campaign, the team is still striving to improve and reach for big- ger goals. "We are looking to keep build- ing and move up in the rank- ings," said Menzel. "We would like to see everyone have strong improvements from the fall going into the spring ses- sion. Our players worked hard over the break and that is good to see. Everyone is ready to get aer it." Despite the squad's youth, it will look to its estab- lished veterans to step up. "I believe we have great leadership potential," said Menzel. "We are excited about Shelby Phillips and her senior campaign. She is looking forward to her last semester at Iowa and is enjoying the experi- ence. She is going to play some good golf. "Sindlinger continues to be our rock as a person and as a leader on this team with her work ethic. Our entire team brings something different to the table, and this helps us to put the puzzle together." T he University of Iowa women's golf team opened spring competition at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. e Hawkeyes finished 13th in a tough field of 15 that featured some of best women's college golf programs the country has to offer. Iowa has four more road trips on its schedule prior to the Big Ten Championships (April 24-26). ose trips range from Arizona to Utah to Ohio, but that will not stop the team from competing to its full potential every time out. "We have an exciting spring schedule ahead of us," said UI head coach Megan Menzel. "We will be seeing some great competition and some great golf courses, and it will be great to get out on the green grass. Our team got a lot of experience in the fall, and we are looking for them to build off that with each tournament and continue getting better." e Hawkeyes were led by youth a majority of the time during the fall season. Notably, freshmen Elisa Suarez and Jessica Ip, and sophomore Jessie Sindlinger, provided some of Iowa's top finishes. Sindlinger tied for 10th and Ip tied for 14th at the Diane omason Invitational, hosted by the MARCH SCHEDULE March 16-17 at BYU Entrada Classic (St. George, Utah) March 20-21 at Mountain View Collegiate (Tucson, Ariz.)
