THIS WEEK IN BADGER HISTORY Dave Crossen finished the 1977 season with 175 tackles. November 5, 1977 Bringing down the Boilermakers Dave Crossen sets the Wisconsin school record for tackles in a game with 28 in a 22-0 loss to Purdue at Camp Randall Stadium. Crossen followed up his performance with 24 tackles against Iowa the following week (Nov. 12). November 1, 1890 TALK ABOUT A FAST START: Wisconsin's first football victory is a 106-0 triumph over UW-Whitewater. ALSO THIS WEEK November 4, 1998 BEST OF THE BIG TEN: UW junior Matt Downin was unanimously selected the 1998 Big Ten Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Year in a vote by conference coaches. Downin, who won the 1998 Big Ten individual title, was the first Badger to earn the award since Donovan Bergstrom in 1991. November 6, 1994 B1G CHAMPIONS: The women's soccer team was crowned the first-ever Big Ten champion by winning the conference tournament at the McClimon Soccer Complex.
