beyond merit; its rule is that of superabundance. It takes first place in our souls as a sign of God's presence in us, a sign of what He expects from us." With abundant gifts, we must be mindful of our responsibilities. In this spirit, our response is stated in our positioning statement "Ask More of Business™. Ask More of Ourselves." As the top business school, we must seek to prepare future leaders who can serve society through effective and responsible businesses. Contrary to the way it tends to be portrayed, business is not a necessary evil; it is a necessary good. Business relies on the moral energies of those who lead it. This is Mendoza's gift to the world: a statement not made in sputtering pride, but as the most important parting reminder I can give to all those who will carry on the work of the College. If we don't raise up this critical belief, we may settle for goals not worthy of what we have received. For the gifts of love, excellence and grace you have showered on me over these past 14 years, I draw on what German theologian and philosopher Meister Eckhart proclaimed, "If the only prayer you say in your life is 'thank you,' that would suffice."
