The papal encyclical Caritas in Veritate bases the notion of commerce on a fundamental truth: "Our Creator is a God of abundance." And whatever comes into our hands—our talents, resources, people and time—are gifts from God to be used in His service, for the common good. We advance together, and no one advances going it alone. Gifts are given and received, and they aren't always tied with a bow. They may even take the form of strife or adversity, which force us to grow or to take stock of what is truly of value. Today we celebrate all of our gifts. Candles glow at the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes as signs of hope, prayer and thanksgiving for gifts received.
