79 Talcott, McCulloch, and Zordani have combined for 172 wins entering their fourth season, and Silver is starting to show signs of a resurrection. She came to campus as the 64th-best prospect in the nation. She won 10 matches as a freshman, but because of injuries, she saw the court only 10 times her junior season. "Silver is coming on strong. She had a good fall, probably her best fall ever and she's finally healthy," Dougherty noted. "She's done a good job in practice and in the gym. Look for her to make an impact this year, I'm pleased to see her healthy." e Hawkeyes also welcome back junior Annette Dohanics and sophomore Aimee Tarun. Douglas is joined on campus by rookies Montana Crawford and Anastasia Reimchen. It's a mixed bag of experience, but it's a bag Dougherty expects to perform well when the Big Ten Tournament rolls around in April. "We were fortunate to have an opportunity to compete at the UCF Quad Tournament before we go into the dual match season," said Dougherty. "It was great to play against good competition before the home opener against Northern Iowa on Jan. 31." Tournament season has been put to bed. For now. e University of Iowa women's tennis team wrapped the tournament portion of its spring schedule at the UCF Quad Tournament in Orlan- do, Florida, from Jan. 17-19. e Hawkeyes' next 21 events are dual competi- tions, and aer an opening week- end, Iowa showed signs of prog- ress. "We rebounded well on the last day in singles and doubles," said UI head coach Katie Dougherty . «Across the board we finished with our best tennis and were much more confident on the deuce points and executed better." Hawkeye newcomer Zoe Douglas made her pres- ence known by collecting a pair of singles wins and a doubles victory in her debut. "So far so good," Dougherty said of Douglas before the season opener. "She's athletic, she's fast, and she has some good weapons." She also has a stable of support. e Hawkeyes have four seniors that are starting to see the begin- ning of the end. Ellen Silver, Shelby Talcott, Mor- ven McCulloch, and Katie Zordani, were tabbed the No. 18 recruiting class in the country four years ago.
