A L E T T E R F R O M : E D M C L A U G H L I N R ichmond's balmy summer has given way to the crisp autumn days and nights, bringing with it my favorite me of the year. I rec- ommend an a ernoon run down leafy Monument Avenue, where rows of green trees have transformed into these brilliant shades of red, orange and yellow. The seasons are changing for VCU Ath- le cs as well. Our fall sports wrapped up their exci ng seasons as the palpa- ble buzz of basketball begins to hum over at the Stuart C. Siegel Center. While the seasons and the sports may change, our mission does not. We remain commi ed to providing the best possible student-athlete experi- ence while pursing academic excel- lence, community involvement and athle c championships. We strive to shape the lives of these young adults in a posi ve way and allow them to become leaders in their communi es and in their professional fields. Our mission becomes easier when our outstanding coaches recruit high- level players and exemplary people. I mean people like Gabby Dyer of the VCU Women's Soccer team, whose selfless mission trip to Uganda this past summer should inspire us all to become more involved in public ser- vice. You can read more about Dyer's journey inside this edi on of The Ram Report. You can learn more about her teammate, Casey Boyer, who has med school wai ng in the wings, or volley- ball senior co-captain Janelle Sykes, or men's basketball Assistant Coach David Cason in this edi on as well. All of these people represent themselves, VCU Athle cs and Central Virginia in a posi ve way, and each one provides an example of excellence for us to strive toward. My goal as Director of Athle cs is to ensure that these halls and our fields of play echo with the achievements of excellent student-athletes, coaches and administrators, and that VCU Ath- le cs con nues to provide this univer- sity and Central Virginia with a sense of pride. With individuals like Gabby, Casey, Janelle and Coach Cason, that mission becomes a simpler every day. Go Rams! Ed McLaughlin Dear VCU fans,
