INSIDE WOMEN'S SOCCER

BY KARL ANDERSON

Nosbusch and Walls providing 1-2 punch
Since arriving on campus in 2008, Laurie Nosbusch has led the women’s soccer team in points every season and has been the top goal-scorer in each of the last two years. In 2011, Nosbusch has been joined up front by freshman Cara Walls, who has given the Badgers another scoring threat.

The two forwards have combined to score 10 of the Badgers’ 17 goals this season. When either player scores, Wisconsin holds a 6-2-0 record this season, including a 3-1 win at Dayton on Sept. 2 where both Nosbusch and Walls scored and UW’s 2-1 win at Michigan State on Sept. 23 where Walls scored twice.

Two is the magic number in Badgers’ winning formula
» For the Badgers, two goals has proven to be the difference between a win and a loss this season. When UW scores two or more goals this year, it is 5-0-1, but only 2-4-1 when scoring zero or one goal. Conversely, when Wisconsin allows two goals, it is 0-3-1 compared to a 7-1-1 mark when allowing one goal or less.

Badgers, Huskers meet for first time as Big Ten foes
» Friday night’s matchup at Nebraska will not be the first time the Badgers and Huskers have met, but, it will be the first time the two meet as members of the Big Ten. Wisconsin is looking for its first ever win against NU, trailing in the current series, 0-2-1. The teams last met in 2006, playing to a 2-2 draw in Lincoln. UW is 0-1-1 all-time on the road in the series.
