Carolina Basketball 2011-12 CAROLINA BASKETBALL BY THE NUMBERS Dan Sears In 2005, Marvin Williams (2nd), Raymond Felton (5th), Sean May (13th) and Rashad McCants (14th) made UNC the first school to have four players taken in the NBA Draft Lottery. UNC's James Worthy and Brad Daugherty were selected No. 1 overall in the draft. The Los Angeles Lakers selected Worthy in 1982; the Cleveland Cavaliers took Daugherty No. 1 in 1986. Vince Carter is one of 40 UNC first-round NBA Draft picks and one of the 96 percent of Dean Smith's lettermen to graduate. Michael Jordan was the third player selected in the 1984 Draft behind Hakeem Olajuwon (Houston) and Sam Bowie (Portland). 42 NCAA Tournament Berths The Tar Heels are tied for second-most in history in NCAA Tournament appearances with 42. The Tar Heels established all-time an consecutive record with 27 trips to the Tournament from 1975-2001. UNC has the third-best win percentage Tournament history. The NCAA champion Tar Heels went 32-0 in 1957. Robert Crawford 42 NBA Championship Rings Former UNC players have won 42 NBA championship rings, more than any school in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Mitch Kupchak has won 10 NBA championship rings and Michael Jordan has won six. They are among 14 former Tar Heels who have gone on to win NBA championship rings as players (most recently Brendan Haywood in 2011). Those 14 players have accounted for 30 rings. James Worthy, Michael Jordan and Walter Davis were NBA first- round picks and All-Stars. First-Round NBA Draft Picks Carolina has had 40 players taken in the first round of the NBA Draft and 97 players selected overall. The Tar Heels have had 21 players drafted in the first round in the last 23 years, including Tyler Hansbrough, Ty Lawson and Wayne Ellington in 2009 and Ed Davis in 2010. 40 Carolina has had more first-round draft picks – 29 – since 1980 than any school in the country. Smith Center Jerseys The jerseys of 47 former Carolina players hang in honor in the Smith Center rafters in Chapel Hill. That total includes retired jerseys of Jack Cobb, Lennie Rosenbluth (No. 10), Phil Ford (No. 12), George Glamack (No. 20), Michael Jordan (No. 23), Antawn Jamison (No. 33), Tyler Hansbrough (No. 50) 47 and James Worthy (No. 52). (72.4) in All-ACC Academic Choices Fifty-one Tar Heel players have earned spots on the 51 All-ACC Academic Team, second-most in conference history. Senior Tyler Zeller is a three-time member of the squad. 1,000-Point Scorers 63 Carolina has had 63 players score 1,000 points, more than any other school in the nation. Tar Heels Tyler Hansbrough (2,872), Phil Ford (2,290), Sam Perkins (2,145), Lennie Rosenbluth (2,045), Al Wood (2,015) and Charles Scott (2,007) each netted at least 2,000 points. First-Team All-ACC Players Carolina has placed 69 players on the All-ACC first 69 team, the most in league history. Duke is second with 60. Tyler Hansbrough was a unanimous selection in 2005-06, 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-09. He is the only player to earn first-team All-ACC honors four times. In addition to Hansbrough, six Tar Heels earned first-team honors three times – Lennie Rosenbluth (1956-58), York Larese (1959-61), Billy Cunningham (1963-65), Charles Scott (1968-70), Phil Ford (1976- 78), Sam Perkins (1982-84) and Antawn Jamison (1996-98). NCAA Tournament Wins 105 Carolina has won 105 games in the NCAA Tournament, tied for most in the history of the event. NCAA Tournament Games UNC is second in NCAA Tournament history in tournament games played with 145, which is six fewer than Kentucky's 151. 145 Nearly 600 ACC Victories The Tar Heels have won 594 regular-season ACC games, more than any other school in conference history. Duke is second with 546. Maryland (425) and NC State (407) are the only other ACC schools with at least 400 ACC wins. Over 2000 Victories The Tar Heels have won 2,033 basketball games, the third-most in NCAA history behind Kentucky and Kansas. Carolina is also second in NCAA history in winning percentage at 73.6 percent. 3
