Carolina Basketball 2011-12 HARRISON BARNES Hit winning three-pointer from the top of the key with 3.1 seconds to play in 72-70 victory at Florida State, his fifth winning shot in an ACC game • Scored nine of his 21 points in the first four minutes as Carolina built an early lead in the win over Maryland • Two com- pletely opposite halves in the win at NC State – scored 14 of his game-high 16 points on 6 of 17 shooting in the second half after a two-point, 0 for 6 shooting effort in the first half • Dunk with 3:02 to play gave UNC the lead for good in win at Clemson • Led all scorers at Clemson with 20 points. Earned co-Freshman of the 30 Week honors (with Kendall Mar- shall) for his play against Boston College and Florida State, the second straight week he won the award • Had a game-high 17 points against the Seminoles, the third game in a row in which he led all scorers • Had 26 points in UNC's 106-74 win at Boston College • Scored 25 points on 10 of 16 shoot- ing in home win over NC State. Hit two key shots including the game-winner in UNC's 74-71 tri- umph at Miami • Hit a fadeaway 18-footer with 1:09 to play to even the game at 71, then nailed a three- pointer with 6.6 seconds left as the shot-clock expired to give the Tar Heels the win • Scored eight of Carolina's final 14 points in its 64- 61 win over Virginia Tech • Base- line jumper tied the game at 52 with 3:38 to play, a three-pointer gave UNC a 55-52 lead moments later and another gave the Tar Heels a 60-56 edge with 1:32 to play. Pre-ACC Highlights: Had 16 points against Texas, in- cluding a three-pointer that tied the game at 76 with 12 seconds to play • Scored 19 points and added a sea- son-high 10 rebounds against Long Beach • Scored 12 first-half points in the win over Kentucky • Scored 19 points (all in the first half) against Hofstra in Puerto Rico. PREP The Sporting News' 2009 Na- tional High School Athlete of the Year • USA Today's National Player of the Year in 2010 • Also won the Morgan Wootten Award as the 2010 National Player of the Year (award also considers charac- ter, leadership and student-athlete values) • Played for Coach Vance Downs at Ames High School • Led Ames to back-to-back unde- feated state championships • Won 53 consecutive games (26-0 in 2009 and 27-0 in 2010) • Earned Most Valuable Player honors at the McDonald's All-Star Game, the Nike Hoop Summit and the Jordan Brand Classic • Had 18 points and five rebounds at McDonald's, 27 points and seven rebounds at Nike Summit and 20 points, 15 rebounds at the Jordan Classic • First-team Parade and USA Today All-Ameri- J.D.
