Carolina Basketball 2011-12 DEXTER STRICKLAND CAREER Named one of the nation's "Grit- tiest Guys" by USA Today for 2012 • Started 40 of 73 games • Scored 475 career points and has 153 as- sists • Played primarily at the point as a freshman and the two-guard as sophomore, but began to see more action at the point in the last 16 games • Scored in double figures 16 times with a career-high 19 against William and Mary. SOPHOMORE SEASON (2010-11) Averaged 10.3 points and 2.5 assists and made 15 of 27 shots (.557) from the floor and 11 of 14 free throws (.786) in the four NCAA Tournament games • Had 41 points in NCAA play, his high- est four-game output since Decem- ber • Did not commit a turnover in 100 minutes in the last three NCAA Tournament games • Had 29 assists in the last 10 games (2.9 per game) • Started 36 games • Averaged 7.5 points and 2.2 assists for the season • Led the team in steals with 45 • Scored in double figures 11 times • Carolina went 9-2 when he scored in double figures (losses to Texas and Kentucky) • Tied for ninth in ACC games in assist-error (2.0) • Averaged 14.4 points over a five- game stretch in December, includ- ing back-to-back career highs (18 vs. Texas and 19 vs. William and Mary) • Carolina's defensive player of the game against Charleston, Il- linois, Evansville, Clemson (ACC Tourney) and Marquette • Went 33 for 44 (.750) from the free throw line in the last 16 games • Was 3 for 22 from three-point range in the last 25 games • Did not attempt a three-pointer in the last six games • Last made a three-pointer at NC State on Feb. 23 • Led Carolina in rebounding at Virginia and Georgia Tech, grabbed a career-high eight rebounds vs. NC State and pulled down six in the NCAA Tournament against Washington. 26 2010-11 Game Highlights: Played a solid all-around game against Kentucky in the NCAA regional final with 11 points, four rebounds, two assists, no turnovers and three steals in 37 minutes • Defended Brandan Knight, who scored 22 points but did so on 7 of 18 shooting from the floor • Scored nine second-half points to spark Carolina's comeback from 11 points down to tie the game • Returned home to New Jersey (was born in Newark) and had eight points, three assists, no turnovers and a career-high tying four steals in regional semifinal vs. Marquette • Had 13 points, six rebounds and no turnovers against Washing- ton • Made a pair of free throws with 5.4 seconds to play to give UNC the 86-83 lead • Was his first double-digit scoring game in eight games since at NC State on Feb. 23 • Played outstanding defense, helping to limit UW guard Isaiah Thomas to 5 of 15 shooting. Handed out four assists, had two steals and was UNC's top defender in a career-high 38 minutes against Clemson in the ACC semifinal • Was outstanding in the win at NC State as he scored 13 points and added two assists and two steals with no turnovers • Pull-up jumper capped an 8-0 UNC run for a 60-52 lead late in the game. Played one of his best games as a Tar Heel with 15 points and four assists in 35 minutes 89-69 win over Florida State • Led the Tar Heels with 10 first-half points as UNC built a 43-34 lead over the Seminoles • Had four assists and helped limit BC's leading scorer Reggie Jackson to just six points in win at Boston College • Scored in double figures for the first time in an ACC game with 12 points on 6 of 7 shooting at Miami • Scored a career-high 19 points against Wil- liam and Mary -- that followed a 13-point effort against Long Beach and a then-career-high tying 18 against Texas • Scored 18 points on 6 of 10 shooting against Texas. FRESHMAN SEASON (2009-10) Third on the team in steals with 33 • Averaged 17.4 minutes a game playing both the point and two-guard • Learned to play point guard after playing mostly shoot- ing guard in high school. Made four starts at the two ear- lier in mid-season • Had 71 assists and 61 turnovers • Had more as- sists than turnovers in 17 games, including four of five NIT games Bob Donnan Jeffrey Camarati
