Carolina Basketball 2011-12 TYLER ZELLER GENERAL INFO Preseason second-team All- America (Sporting News) • Rated the second-best returning player in the ACC (behind Harrison Barnes) by USA Today and the nation's second-best center by Lindy's. CAREER Scored 103 points in the 2011 NCAA Tournament, the second- highest scoring output by a Tar Heel in a four-game NCAA Tour- nament behind only Charles Scott, who totaled 105 points in 1969 • First Tar Heel to score 20 or more points in four straight NCAA games since Donald Williams in 1993 • Averaged 25.8 points and 8.8 rebounds and had six assists, eight blocks and five steals in the NCAA Tournament • Made 35 for 59 (.593) from the floor and 33 for 39 (.846) from the line • First time in his career he scored 20 or more points in four consecutive games • Led UNC in scoring in each of the four NCAA games • Selected to the East Regional all-tournament team. Earned first-team All-ACC Tour- nament honors • Averaged 13.7 points and 6.3 rebounds, made 16 of 31 shots from the floor and 9 of 12 free throws in the three games in Greensboro • Hit the tying and winning shots against Miami and the tying basket against Clemson • Had three blocks against Duke. 2010-11 NCAA Tournament Highlights: Led Carolina in scoring for the fourth straight game with 21 points and added nine rebounds and four blocks in regional final vs. Ken- tucky • Scored UNC's last four points, including both ends of a one-and-one to tie the game at 67 and a tip-in with 1:52 to play to pull within a point • Led all scorers for the third game in a row with 27 points and added 12 rebounds, four assists and three steals in Sweet 16 win over Marquette • The four as- sists were a career high and he tied his career best with seven offensive boards and the three thefts • Led all scorers with 23 points and was UNC's top defender in win over Washington • Scored a career-high 32 points and added nine rebounds and three blocks against LIU • Tied the sixth-most points by a Tar Heel in an NCAA Tournament game (most since Tyler Hansbrough's 33 against Michigan State in 2007) • Went 9 of 14 from the floor and 14 of 19 from the line • The 14 free throws equal the second-most by a Tar Heel in an NCAA Tournament game (with Tommy Kearns in 1957 and Tyler Hansbrough in 2007) and the 19 attempts equal the most in UNC's NCAA history (with Ke- arns) • Scored 25 of his 32 points in the second half (from 15:18 to 7:39, he scored 14 of UNC's 18 points). 2010-11 ACC Tournament Highlights: Scored 10 of his 14 points in the second half including a jump hook with 29 seconds to play in regula- tion that tied the game at 73-all in UNC's ACC semifinal win over floor and had 14 points in win over Duke – after the Blue Dev- ils closed to within 60-52, Zeller scored six of UNC's next eight points to increase the lead back to 12 • Established a personal ACC scoring high with 25 points on 10 of 16 shooting against Maryland • Scored 14 first-half points as UNC built a 43-31 advantage • Earned his fourth consecutive defensive player of the game award, led all scorers with 16 points and had nine rebounds in 48-46 win over Boston College • Helped UNC limit BC to just 14 field goals and 26.9 per- cent shooting from the floor • Was defensive player of the game for the third game in a row, led UNC with 18 points and pulled down nine boards against Wake Forest • Defensive player of the game at Clemson, helping UNC limit the Tigers to 34.4 percent shoot- ing from the floor and 62 points at home • Scored 24 points, grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds and was UNC's top defender at Duke • Had 13 points and nine rebounds in the opening half • Went 6 for 7 from the floor and 6 of 6 from the free throw line en route to an ACC sea- son high 18 points and tied his ca- reer high with three steals at Bos- ton College • Had 11 points, seven rebounds and three blocks in home win over Clemson • Had 16 points and nine rebounds against Virginia Tech – bucket with 2:18 to play gave Carolina the lead for good and another basket with 1:01 left gave the Tar Heels a 62-58 lead.
