THIS WEEK IN BADGER HISTORY

September 26, 1942
CRAZYLEGS’ COMING OUT PARTY
Elroy Hirsch is first tagged “Crazylegs” after a local sportswriter notes “his crazy legs were gyrating” on a 60-yard touchdown run vs. Notre Dame. Hirsch played for the Badgers as a triple-threat halfback. The 1942 team went 8-1-1, including a 17-7 win over No. 1-ranked Ohio State. Hirsch returned to UW in 1969 as the director of athletics, serving in that role for 18 years.

A HAT TRICK AND MORE: Hilary Knight became the first Badger in women’s hockey history to score five goals in a single game. Knight also recorded a natural hat trick as the Badgers beat Quinnipiac, 7-3.
