ASK THE BADGERS

“What’s the biggest challenge to improving in your sport?”

Aaron Henry  •  Senior  •  Football
“The challenging part of football is the mental aspect. You hear the cliché often that the game’s 90 percent mental and just 10 percent physical, but it’s true. It’s about staying consistent and making sure you watch film and know your playbook. If you can get a jump on your opponents before you play the game, that will go a long way toward making you better.”

Meghan McIntosh  •  Junior  •  Softball
“When it comes to improving in softball, especially being a pitcher, I think the  most challenging aspect is the mental game. You have to scout your opponent, visually go through each pitch in your mind and wipe the slate clean when something arises out of your control. Staying focused on what you can control is the No. 1 challenging aspect in improving your mental game. ”

Mohammed Ahmed  •  Junior  •  Men’s Cross Country
“One thing I’d say that really can keep runners from improving is achieving success and being content with it. I won a Big Ten ring for cross country last year, but all I really want is another one. Not being satisfied helps you to keep improving and makes sure you don’t get slowed down by getting too complacent.”

Sara Watermolen  •  Junior  •  Women’s Rowing
“The most difficult part about improving in my sport is that our season is in the spring and we have to wait all winter for the lake to thaw in order to start practicing on the water. Land workouts don’t compare to the water, so we have a big disadvantage in that.”
