The wait is almost over
Nebraska’s visit to Madison isn’t for another week, but the excitement is begining to build. Nonetheless, Bret Bielema’s Badgers have one more game before the much-anticipated matchup with the Huskers. UW’s final tuneup before the Big Ten opener is Saturday at Camp Randall. Wisconsin welcomes the Coyotes of South Dakota at 2:30 p.m.

1, 2, 3, 4, we want more!
The top-ranked women’s hockey team begins defense of its 2011 national championship this weekend against Lindenwood at the Kohl Center. The defending champs will be recognized before the game Friday with a banner raising ceremony as they begin the quest for the program’s fifth national title. The two-game series concludes Sunday at 2 p.m.

Things just got tougher
The volleyball team begins conference play against Northwestern at 7 p.m. Friday and No. 3 Illinois at 1 p.m. Sunday at the UW Field House. The Wildcats are 9-2 overall, while the Illini are a perfect 11-0. The Big Ten will be one of the toughest conferences in the country, with seven teams ranked among the top 25 in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll.

Hitting the links
Women’s golf hosts the Badger Invitational at University Ridge Golf Course on Sunday and Monday. Wisconsin looks to defend its 2010 Badger Invitational title as the Badgers welcome teams to their home course. University Ridge was recently ranked the fifth-best college course in the nation by Golfweek magazine.

Wednesday Night Futbol
The UW men’s soccer team resumes its in-state rivalry with Marquette as the Badgers welcome the Golden Eagles to the McClimon Soccer Complex Wednesday night. The Badgers (3-3-1 overall) finished the UIC Classic last weekend with a 1-0-1 record and are hoping for a rivalry win before conference play begins.
