STANFORD returned to the NCAA Women's Final Four after a one-year absence to make its sixth appearance in the last seven years and marking the Pac-12's seventh-straight national semifinal appearance. The Cardinal earned its 14th-straight Pac-12 regular-season crown, but failed to make the Pac -12 Tournament Championship game for the first time in the event's history after USC pulled off the upset in the semifinals. The Trojans went on to claim the Pac-12 Tournament crown, defeating OREGON STATE, making it the first time a team had won the title after playing four games in four days. The Trojans made their first appearnace in the NCAA Tournament since 2006, while league tournament runner-up OSU also earned its first berth since 1996. Also joining the duo were STANFORD, CALIFORNIA and ARIZONA STATE. A three-time consensus All-American, STANFORD's Chiney Ogwumike was voted the Pac-12 Player of the Year, as well as the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year for the third-straight year. Also named the Pac-12 Scholar- Athlete of the Year, Ogwumike became the first-ever Pac-12 player to be named John R. Wooden National PLayer of the Year. WASHINGTON's Kelsey Plum was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year. STANFORD head coach Tara VanDerveer was named the John R. Wooden Pac-12 Coach of the Year for the 14th time in 27 years at the helm. VanDerveer also became just the fifth women's basketball coach in NCAA history to reach 900 wins. The Pac-12 also boasted the nation's leading rebounder in Oregon sophomore Jillian Alleyne, who collected a Pac-12 single-season best 476 (16.2 rpg) rebounds, as well as the top-two scoring freshmen in the nation in UO's Chrishae Rowe (21.6 ppg) and Plum (20.9). Alleyne and CALIFORNIA's Brittany Boyd were tabbed Associated Press honorable mention selections. OSU head coach Scott Rueck was named WBCA Region 8 Coach of the Year for leading the Beavers to one of their best seasons in program history. Also of note in 2013-14, Ogwumike broke the all-time scoring record held by former Stanford star Candice Wiggins as she finished her career with 2,737 points in addition to breaking the career rebounding record with 1567 rebounds and the record for career field goals made, finishing with 1,100 total. She became the third player in Pac-12 history (Sister Nneka Ogwumike was the second, drafted No. 1 in 2012) to be selected as the number one overall pick in the WNBA draft, going to the Connecticut Sun. The Conference's five selections in the draft were the most since 2007. 2013-14 FINAL PAC-12 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL STANDINGS NCAA TOURNAMENT FIRST ROUND ARIZONA STATE 68, Vanderbilt 61 (Toledo, Ohio) CALIFORNIA 64, Fordham 63 (Waco, Texas) St. John's 71, USC 68 (Knoxville, Tenn.)
