TAR HEEL SPORTS NETWORK Jones Angell UNC Play-by-Play Announcer Jones Angell enters his first year as the radio play-by-play announcer for the Tar Heel Sports Network. Angell, a native of Jacksonville, N.C., has worked in a number of roles at the network for the past 11 years, including calling play-by-play for Carolina baseball the past eight seasons, which included five trips to the College World Series. Angell moves into the play-by-play chair after the retirement of Hall of Fame broadcaster Woody Durham, who stepped down in April after 40 seasons as the Voice of the Tar Heels. A 2001 UNC graduate, Angell was a member of Durham’s broadcast team for nearly 70 Tar Heel football games and more than 200 men’s basketball games, including the 2009 national championship. He called play-by-play on the network during several ACC Tournaments, the Las Vegas Invitational, Puerto Rico Tipoff Challenge and numerous preseason basketball games. He has hosted TarHeelBlue.com broadcasts of Late Night with Roy Williams and football’s Signing Day Live, produced and hosted features on the coaches’ television shows, written for Tar Heel Monthly, and called play-by- play for UNC women’s basketball and women’s soccer. Angell is as assistant director of New Media at UNC where he has helped to produce video board and special Internet features that have been shown online, at various athletic venues, and at special events such as the 100-year celebra- tion of Carolina Basketball. He was an associate producer on the commemora- tive DVD that chronicled the 2005 men’s basketball national championship. “I am incredibly honored and excited to become the next play-by-play Learfield Communications begins its 13th full year as the official media rights holder for the University of North Carolina athletic teams. Based in Jefferson City, Missouri, Learfield purchased Tar Heel Sports Properties in October 1999, adding the UNC property to 52 other schools, conferences and arenas under the Learfield umbrella. Among those for which Learfield also owns the rights are Alabama, Clemson, Colorado, Oklahoma, Indiana, Miami (Fla.), Missouri and Wisconsin. “Our goal is to continue and add to the tremendous tradition and fan following at Carolina,” says Gary Sobba, the 11-year General Manager for Tar Heel Sports Properties. “I have worked on various college campuses for more than 21 years,” adds Sobba, “and if there is a better athletic program in the country than this one, I don’t know where it is.” Tar Heel Sports Properties is in its 17th year as UNC’s multimedia rights holder. All Carolina fans have heard of the Tar Heel Sports Network, which broadcasts the play-by-play of football and basketball games, but that is only one facet of the opera- tion. Tar Heel Sports Properties is a full-service agency overseeing production and sales of all the University of North Carolina’s football and basketball entities including television, print products, internet and radio. THSP brings you a variety of ways to follow the Heels during the athletic season. Simply, listen to your radio during the week for “Everett Withers Live” and “Roy Williams Live” or watch game highlights Saturday mornings on “Inside Carolina Football and Basketball,” and on “Tar Heel Football Review Show” in the Triangle. When you are at Kenan Stadium pick-up the official game program. The Tar Heel Sports Network continues to bring the great tradition of Carolina sports into your home. Fans have an opportunity to phone in and talk with the head coach every week during the football season on the “Everett Withers Live” call in show. Listeners can also tune in to “Inside Carolina Football”, a daily five-minute pro- gram featuring head coach Everett Withers and member of the football program. Both of these shows are heard on stations throughout North Carolina and beyond. “Inside Carolina Football with Everett Withers,” is a half-hour television program seen each week on Fox Sports South.
