DEAR JWU FAMILIES,
She did it! Our daughter Kati graduated. What a profound experience it has been. When we were
asked to share our advice with current JWU families, we came up with three tips from collective
experience.
First, encourage your student to get involved and engaged in all aspects of their education,
whether through school activities or work. Make sure they are communicating with Student
Academic & Financial Services, their faculty advisor, and anyone else who is making a
contribution to their success in college. It's time for them to step out and stand on their own;
let them have the conversations and keep you in the loop. Kati has built lifelong relationships
because we have encouraged her to engage and take charge of her college experience.
Second, the internship program is a phenomenal aspect of your student's education. It is
the foundation of their professional network and one that will pay dividends in the future.
The process can seem daunting to students. Make sure you know the deadlines, encourage
conversation, and get help from Experiential Education & Career Services.
Third, visit your student. Each of Johnson & Wales' four campuses nationwide offers something
unique with so much to do. From experience, we can tell you that Denver is an amazing city. The
people are warm and the culture is accepting. Also, JWU always arranges the greatest events for
Family Weekend.
We are proud to be a part of the Johnson & Wales University family. We wish you and your
student the best of luck.
