"Last year, this summer and in camp, I focused on myself, working hard, and doing what I needed to do. Coming into camp, I felt confident and strong. "I have always done what I needed to individually, and the hard work has paid off." UI head coach Dave DiIanni says the Hawkeyes have a 1A and 1B goalkeeper on their roster. Beck is currently 1A aer having a strong preseason. "Kiley has been very consistent and hasn't been making mistakes," he said. "She is being rewarded for the hard work she has put in." Beck knows it will be a season-long battle at the goalkeeper position, but she says the daily com- petition will allow all three players to continue to improve. "We come into practice every day and it's a healthy competition," said Beck. "at makes you better. ey're there to push me, and I am there to push them. "I take it day-by-day. at's all I have ever tried to do and all I plan on doing. I am focusing on each practice and each activity in practice." T hree years of hard work paid off for Univer- sity of Iowa senior Kiley Beck when she was named the Hawkeyes' starting goalkeeper to begin the 2014 season. Beck led Iowa to three shutout victories (Northern Iowa, Illinois Chicago, Fresno State) in its first four contests. She made a combined nine saves in help- ing lead the Hawkeyes to a 4-0 nonconference start for the fourth-straight season. e Rockford, Illinois, native entered the 2014 season with five career appearances (no starts), where she logged 136:43 minutes. Beck surpassed her career minute total in Iowa's opening weekend, and she is currently tops in the Big Ten in shutouts (three), goals against aver- age (0.00), and save per- centage (1.000). "It has felt good (to start and post shutouts)," said Beck. "Most of the credit goes to the defense doing a great job of making my job easy. I have felt confident, and I did what I could to communicate with the backs to make sure everything goes smooth." Beck made her first career start Aug. 23 at North- ern Iowa. During the preseason, she was in a battle with junior Hannah Clark and freshman Tina Cardamone. In 2013, Clark started all 19 games, posting 10 shutouts and leading Iowa to the NCAA Tournament.
