WHERE ARE THEY NOW? who had recruited her to Wisconsin. “John has been a great mentor to me,’’ Lizzy said. “I played at the highest level in this sport and John has provided fantastic insight into what it takes to run a program at the highest level.’’ North Carolina and Nebraska were building blocks and stepping stones for Lizzy Stemke’s career. Nobody was more cognizant of that than Kevin, whose job offered him much needed flexibility. “What’s really been neat,’’ he said, “is that I’ve been able to continue to do what I do as Lizzy has moved from volleyball coaching positions. I just work out of the house. “As long as I have my cell phone, the internet and an airport nearby, I can pretty much get all the stuff done that I need to get done.’’ As such, Kevin has been invaluable to Lizzy during her learning stages in the business. “He’s been incredibly supportive,’’ she said. “I’ve been able to take fantastic op- portunities – which are the nature of the profession – and his job is to the point where he can make the moves easily. “He knows that coaching is my passion. And he has not only been very supportive – moving where I’ve gone – but he’s been very emotionally invested in every oppor- tunity that has come along. “He’s definitely a sounding board for new ideas and issues that arise in the ath- letic world. And it’s hard to tell who’s more excited, Lizzy or Kevin. “We’re committed to a place where we’re going to try and help them build a pro- gram,’’ he said. “I’m absolutely thrilled; we can see our- selves here for a very long time,’’ she said. Sounds like a pretty solid tag team.
