Big Ten Tournament History The University of Iowa advanced to the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Championships for a second consecutive season. The highest seed the Hawkeyes have obtained was No.4 in 2010, which was also head coach Katie Dougherty's first season at the UI. Seaborne-McCullough Among Big Ten's Best Duos Iowa's top doubles team of Seaborne and McCull- och posted an overall record of 21-8 this year while going 15-5 during the dual season. The duo was 7-2 in conference play and 9-3 in their last 12 matches. Dohanics Dominates at No. 5 Position Sophomore Annette Dohanics compiled a singles record of 14-7; she won five consecutive matches to conclude the season. Iowa in Good Shape at Top of the Lineup The Hawkeyes finished a combined 40-31 (.563) at the top three singles positions, going 16-8 and 13-10 at the No. 1 and No. 3 slots, respectively. Doubles Prove to be Critical The Hawkeyes won the doubles point 14 times this sea- son and own a 11-3 mark in the matches. Iowa was 0-10 when losing the doubles point. Seaborne Highlights 11-Win Season By DARREN MILLER L one senior Ruth Seaborne led the University of Iowa women's tennis team to an 11-win season, and in the process was named first-team All-Big Ten Conference. The Hawkeyes (11-13 overall) wrapped up the 2014 campaign by winning two of their last three matches against league competition (Penn State on April 20, Michigan State on April 24). Seaborne, a native of London, England, compiled a 15-7 singles record, including an 8-3 mark in the Big Ten. Seaborne played at the No. 1 position in all 23 matches, and has reached as high as No. 56 in the ITA singles rankings. Seaborne teamed with junior Morven McCulloch to win 15-of-20 matches at No. 1 doubles. During a season-ending loss to No. 17 Michigan, UI junior Shelby Talcott emerged with a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles against No. 22 Ronit Yurovsky and finished the season 12-11 in singles play. She was 2-0 during conference tournament matches against Michi- gan State and Michigan. Seaborne was recognized as the Big Ten Athlete of the Week on two different occasions. She is the first Hawkeye since Sonja Molnar in 2010 to win the award two times in the same season. UI freshman Aimee Tarun was recognized as a Sports- manship Award honoree. The 12 student-athletes cho- sen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These student-athletes must also be in good academic stand- ing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
