THIS WEEK IN BADGER HISTORY
{
A SHUTOUT TO SAVOR
MARCH 22, 2009: Wisconsin captured its third women's hockey national title in four
years by blanking Mercyhurst, 5-0, in a game that saw five different Badgers tally
goals and goaltender Jessie Vetter make a career-high 37 saves.
OFF THE POST, ON TO THE TITLE
APRIL 8, 2006: Wisconsin defeated Boston College, 2-1, at Milwaukee's Bradley
Center for the school's sixth NCAA men's hockey championship. Senior All-America
defenseman Tom Gilbert's power-play goal at 9:32 was the difference as the Badgers
survived a last-second BC shot that rang off the post.
ONTO THE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
DECEMBER 14, 2000: The UW volleyball team, competing in its first Final Four, swept
No. 2 USC, 3-0, to advance to the championship match against Nebraska. UW outhit
USC .263-.147 in the national semifinal contest.
'I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M GOING TO SAY IT...'
MARCH 25, 2000: "… but the Wisconsin Badgers are headed to the Final Four!" Wisconsin's
berth came as a surprise to more than just play-by-play man Matt Lepay, as the Badgers ad-
vanced to the final weekend of the 2000 NCAA Tournament by defeating Purdue in the West
Regional final in Albuquerque, N.M. Upon their return to Madison later that night, the Bad-
gers were greeted by 20,000 screaming fans at a pep rally in Camp Randall Stadium.
