"We have another week of that next
week and I think the guys are progressing really well. We are slowly tightening
the screws and honing in on what each
guy needs to do."
The extra work will pay off in March
when the championship portion of the
season begins, but fans will see dividends now as the Badgers' Big Ten season heats up.
Badgers utilizing break to
hone individual skills
UW taking advantage of time off from classes
ome students go home,
some travel abroad, others take an extra class.
But for the Badgers, winter
break is a time to get in extra
work on the mat.
"Now is the time to hone in
on individual skill work, tighten things up and get ready for
that run in March," said head
coach Barry Davis about the
team's winter break plans.

"It's a time that, with no
school, you can spend more
time on skill work, running,
lifting, getting everybody
ready because there is nothing
going on but working out."
Wisconsin spent Dec. 29-30
at the Midlands Championships and will resume Big Ten
action on Friday against No. 9
Ohio State, but all of the time
in between has been focused
LUBECK PINS NATIONAL CHAMP
● Wrestling at 149 lbs., redshirt freshman Rylan Lubeck pinned No. 2 seed
and 2009 national champion Darrion
Caldwell in his second bout of the day
at Midlands on Dec. 29. Caldwell was
a two-time All-American at NC State
and named Most Outstanding Wrestler at the 2009 NCAA Championships.
Lubeck wrapped up the tournament
with a 4-3 record and an eighth-place
finish.
GRAFF JOINS 20-WIN CLUB
● With a 5-2 record and fourth-place
finish at this year's Midlands, senior
Tyler Graff added his name to a list
that includes Dan Gable, Barry Davis
and Cael Sanderson. Graff joined the
elusive 20-in-4 Club with a career
Midlands record of 21-3. Twice, in
2009 and 2010, Graff won the event
with unblemished 5-0 records, while
in 2012 he placed third with a 6-1
showing.
