Samara looks ahead to
the spring season
"You have to be great as a team" come spring
he Wisconsin women's
tennis team, with a new
head coach and new assistant coach, had its fair share
of wins and losses during the
fall season. With five fall tournaments ― Minnesota Invitational, Spartan Invitational,
Wildcat Invite, USTA/ITA Midwest Regional and Longhorn
Invitational ― the Badgers
overall record for the fall was

43-34 in singles and 15-27 in
doubles.
Being new to Wisconsin,
head coach Tina Samara used
the fall season as an adjustment period for both herself and her team. "This was
the time to get to know each
player's individual style," said
Samara. "It was also a time for
the players to get used to the
way we coach."
UW head coach Tina Samara and assistant coach Matt Manasse believe that
their team of seven sophomores and one
freshmen have what it takes.
"We have some injuries that need to
be taken care of, but Matt and I see a lot
of potential in this young group," said Samara.
Sydney Rider recently joined the list
of injured players with a broken bone
in her wrist that needed surgery. Other
recent injuries include Lauren Chypyha's
broken rib and Anastasia Tripolskaya's
injured hand that required stitches. On
the other hand, later this week Nova Patel will find out if she is cleared to play
after having missed all of last season.
"Right now the team is in a good place,"
said Samara. "I believe everyone is committed on and off the court. The big thing
is to get everyone healthy. The hope is
to have everyone back and to have a full
team come January."
The Badgers will resume play on Jan.
25 at Nielsen Tennis Stadium taking on
Milwaukee at 9 a.m. CT and Northern Illinois at 2 p.m. CT. Overall, Wisconsin will
host 12 matches at Nielsen Tennis Stadium during regular season.
"The spring brings a different kind
of pressure to team," said Samara. "You
don't have to be great individually; you
just have to be great as a team. It will be
interesting to see the team come together this spring. You can have a fall season
like we did and come spring, we can surprise everyone."
