Non-conference season presents risks for UW Badgers travel to Milwaukee, host NIU or the Badgers, the nonconference season is a good way to prepare for Big Ten play. But Wisconsin has to be careful not to overlook upset-minded opponents. "We're preparing for everybody's best," said head coach Bobbie Kelsey. "We can't take anybody lightly. Anybody can beat you on any given night." That was proven in the F 60 // VARSITY November 14, 2013 opening weekend as Illinois lost to Bradley and Michigan fell to Bowling Green. "It's not just because we're in the Big Ten we just automatically are the big dogs that can't be knocked down," Kelsey added. "Our kids understand it, and we go and approach every game individually with that in mind; that we have to be ready to play." 7 p.m. 2 p.m. 7 p.m. 5 p.m. TBA WELCOME TO THE CLUB ● Fifth-year senior Taylor Wurtz picked up her 1,000th career point against Drake last Sunday. The 6-foot guard scored her notable point at the 8:51 mark of the first half. She became the 22nd UW player to score 1,000 points. Wurtz now has 1,008 points in her fifth season. She was forced to take a medical redshirt in 2012-13 due to a lingering back injury after playing in five games. The Badgers should have two 1,000-point scorers this season as senior Morgan Paige is just 116 points away from a grand. FAMILIAR FACES ACROSS THE COURT ● The Badgers will face some familiar coaches this week, as two former assistant coaches head their opponents. Former Badger Kyle (Black) Rechlicz is in her second season at Milwaukee while Kathi Bennett is in her fourth season at Northern Illinois. Rechlicz played for the Badgers from 1998-2002, averaging 7.9 points per game. She also served as an assistant under Kelsey at Wisconsin in 2011-12. Bennett served as a UW assistant coach under former head coach Lisa Stone for two seasons from 2008-10.
