THIS WEEK IN BADGER HISTORY BADGERS VS. HAWKEYES WATCH: RON'S RUN TO THE RECORD THE DAYNE GAME NOVEMBER 13, 1999: Wisconsin tailback Ron Dayne became the NCAA's all-time leading rusher and the Badgers earned a spot in the Rose Bowl with their 41-3 win over Iowa at Camp Randall Stadium. Dayne, who rushed for 216 yards, broke the record formerly held by Texas' Ricky Williams on a 31-yard carry at 4:32 of the second quarter. He finished with 6,397 career yards (bowls not included). Madison mayor Sue Bauman declared Nov. 13, 1999 "Ron Dayne Day" in honor of his accomplishment. { HEARTLAND TROPHY HEROICS ALSO AGAINST OCTOBER 23, 2010: A perfectly-executed fake punt by Brad Nortman and a touchdown dive by RB Montee Ball in the closing minutes propelled the 10thranked Badgers to a dramatic 31-30 win over No. 13 Iowa at Kinnick Stadium. The win came one week after UW knocked off No. 1 Ohio State in Madison and helped the Badgers secure their first Big Ten title since 1999. THE STREAK COMES TO AN END NOVEMBER 8, 1997: Despite losing RB Ron Dayne to an injury in the first quarter, the Badgers snapped an 18-game winless streak against the Hawkeyes by claiming a 13-10 win over No. 14 Iowa on Homecoming at Camp Randall. The victory is UW's first over Hawkeyes since 1976. GOING TO THE AIR NOVEMBER 18, 1995: Badgers QB Darrell Bevell completed a school-record 35 passes (on 51 attempts) in a 33-20 loss to Iowa. Matt Nyquist caught 13 of Bevell's passes to set a school record for most receptions in a game. 66 // VARSITY October 31, 2013
