Badgers open season with
plenty of potential
UW begins third season under Bobbie Kelsey
or third-year head coach
Bobbie Kelsey, rebuilding the Badgers basketball program has been a slow
process. After last season, in
which UW played with only
nine athletes, Kelsey is looking
forward to the potenial of the
2013-14 team.
"It's exciting to have a lot of
scorers back, a lot of experience, a lot of veteran leader-

ship and we're excited for all
of them because they can help
our team in different ways,"
Kelsey said. "When we put it
all together, that makes for an
exciting opportunity for them
to experience something that
nobody believes we can do."
Kelsey returns four starters
from 2012-13 as well as fifthyear senior Taylor Wurtz, who
redshirted last season.

SCORING RETURNS
● With 10 letterwinners on the roster,
UW boasts the most returning points
in the Big Ten. The Badgers return
88.9 percent of their scoring, or 1,599
points, from last year. That number
includes minimal contribution from
Taylor Wurtz and AnnMarie Brown,
both of whom missed the majority of
the 2012-13 season due to injury.
Wisconsin also returns 89.9 percent of its rebounds or 949 of 1,144.
UW lost only one player to graduation, point guard Tiera Stephen.
ALL-BIG TEN PLAYERS RETURN
● UW returns three All-Big Ten picks,
as senior Morgan Paige was named
third-team All-Big Ten in 2012. Junior
Jacki Gulczynski earned honorable
mention All-Big Ten honors last season. Senior Taylor Wurtz was a thirdteam All-Big Ten pick in 2012.
Paige, a 5-foot-9 guard, led the Badgers with 15.9 points per game last season. She also made the most 3-pointers
and free throws on the squad in 201213.
Gulczynski, a 6-1 forward, ranked
second on the team with 13 points per
game and also averaged 5.9 rebounds
per game.
Wurtz, a 6-0 guard, played in only
five games last season before taking
a medical redshirt due to a lingering
back issue. As a junior, she led the
Badgers with 16.1 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.
