opened
the 2013–14 season with a largely
veteran group, including nine
seniors and seven juniors,
but it was a freshman who
came to the rescue last Saturday to get the Badgers their
first season-opening sweep
since the 2004–05 season. In
the process, Grant Besse did
something no other UW rookie has done since the 2007–08
season ― score goals in his
first two games at Wisconsin.
Besse was a goal scorer during
his high school playing days in

team capture the 2012 Minnesota State High School Class
AA Championship. He seems
to have had no problems adjusting to the faster pace of
college hockey, scoring in the
third period of last Friday's
game in his debut. Then Saturday he provided the heroics,
following up his own rebound
with just 3:35 remaining in
regulation against Northern
Michigan. The goal snapped a
1-1 deadlock and provided the
difference in helping the Badgers sweep. The performance
made Besse the first UW freshman to score in his first two
games since current Ottawa
Senators' forward Kyle Turris
scored goals in his first two games. Turris actually tallied goals in his first four
career Badger contests.
